Cancer Biologist Heather Hambright Receives F99/K00 award

26 Sep 2016

Congratulations to Heather Hambright, one of our Ph.D. students in the Cancer Biology track (6th year) whose F99/K00 has just been funded by NIH/NCI on first submission.

The F99/K00 (Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award) is a brand new mechanism akin to the K99/R00 in that the awardee can take the K00 to a postdoctoral position of their choice after graduation. At the moment, NCI is the only institute at NIH that is piloting this mechanism.

The F99/K00 is intended for individuals who are within 1-2 years of completing their dissertation and each institution was limited to a single application. Heather was selected through a competitive process organized by the Office of VP for Research and she was nominated by our program.

Congratulations also to Heather’s mentor and primary sponsor, Dr. Rita Ghosh in the Department of Urology!
