M.D./Ph.D. student Mariam Ishaque’s dissertation which she completed in the lab of Dr. Peter Fox was featured in The San Antonio Express-News. Their research based on brain scans suggests that children who have had oxygen deprivation-related brain injuries might experience “locked-in syndrome,” where they are aware of their environment but unable to interact with it.
