Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction Event on Oct 28
Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction is a data social event with brief presentations and general discussion regarding various aspects on addiction. The next event, Novel perspectives on potential pitfalls of opioid therapy for pain management, will be Monday 28 October from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the ALTC Lobby.
Dr. John Roache will discuss his clinical work with Dr. McGeary on non-pharmacological management of chronic pain (physical activity and behavioral therapy) and how to structure opioid dose reductions using behavioral principles in that context.
Dr. Brett Ginsburg will describe his collaboration with Drs. Koek, Lopez-Cruzan, and Yauger investigating the interaction between physical activity (exercise) and opioid administration on analgesia, opioid reward, and inflammation using mouse models of neuropathic and inflammatory chronic pain.
Dr. Naomi Sayre will discuss her research on behavioral and biological aspects of traumatic brain injury (TBI), particularly related to secondary damage due to inflammation, in a collaborative project with Drs. Lopez-Cruzan and Ginsburg, examining the potential impact of opioid analgesic administration in the hours immediately following a TBI incident.
All of these are projects in the early stages of development and attendees will be encouraged to provide feedback to help these project secure extramural funding.
