Alumna Dr. Shivani Ruparel Receives Grant to Curb Pain For Oral Cancer Patient

Congratulations
to Dr. Shivani Ruparel, (mentor, Dr. Bob Marciniak), an alumna of the
Cellular and Structural Biology graduate program who has just received a 2015 American Cancer Society (ACS) Grant Award, a competitive, peer-reviewed 2-year grant!

Dr. Ruparel is
currently an assistant professor/research in the Department of Endodontics, at the UT Health Science Center Dental School.

She is investigating the mechanisms
mediating pain induced by oral cancer and various treament options. Her ACS
grant is titled “CYP450 enzyme inhibitors as novel palliative care analgesics
in oral cancer.”
