Greehey Graduate Student Fellowship Awards: Nourhan Abdelfattah and Judy Chang
The Greehey Student Fellowship Award recognizes students researching children’s cancer within the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute. This awards helps to assist student’s research by providing a doctoral student stipend for one full academic year plus payment for tuition and fees. This year, Nourhan Abdelfattah and Judy Chang were nominated to receive this award!
Nourhan Abdelfatthah is a second-year PhD candidate in the Cancer Biology track of the IMGP program. She was stunned to realize she had been selected to receive the award since it was only her second year. Nourhan works under the mentorship of Dr. Manjeet Rao and her research involves, “…trying to sensitize medulloblastoma – which is the most common children’s brain cancer- to treatment regiment using miRNAs. This can improve the lifestyle of these kids dramatically.”
Judy Chang is also a PhD candidate in the Cancer Biology track within the IMGP progam. She works under the mentorship of Dr. Jaclyn Hung and is, “…studying the role of the protein, UCHL1, in pediatric brain tumors (specificially astrocytomas). There is evidence of UCHL1 acting as cancer promoting protein in other cancers.”
Congratulations Nourhan and Judy!
