Trainees attend prelude to World Stem Cell Summit hosted by the Health Cell
The Health Cell is an organization that is dedicated to the professional development of the healthcare industry in San Antonio.
By hosting various events, The Health Cell hopes to connect leading professionals with aspiring trainees to build a strong foundation for a successful health and bioscience industry in the Alamo City. Recently, trainees had the opportunity to attend an event, “The Promise and Reality of Stem Cell Therapies,” sponsored by The Health Cell.
The event included a panel of healthcare professionals, including Dr. Carlos Bachier, Dr. Steven Davis, and Dr. Annette Zaharoff, all of whom discussed the importance of stem cell therapy in their respective fields. In addition, Loretta Patterson, a patient who benefited from a stem cell transplant, participated on the panel. Ultimately, trainees were able to learn more about stem cell therapy as a treatment for multiple diseases as well as the promising potential stem cell therapy may have in the future.
Several of our GSBS trainees attended this event and had the following to say :
“The Health Cell event was really great. It gave us all an opportunity to hear the perspectives of a lot of people we don’t typically hear from in research. It’s informative to hear what clinicians, health care administrators, and patients think about the research being done and what they would like to see done. This event is a valuable experience for any trainee.”
Travis Block, Graduate Student BME Program
“The event was a great opportunity to meet local surgeons, entrepreneurs, and researchers in the stem cell field. I was excited to learn how stem cell treatment helped a patient in the real world. As a researcher in stem cell biology, I’m thrilled to find the vast stem-cell-related resources here in San Antonio.”
