Tony Yuan and Ramon Coronado launched the Mobile Stem Care, one of the first companies of its kind in the country.

The company can isolate adult stem cells from adipose tissue, or fat, collected from the affected animals on-site in less than 90 minutes. It can then be used to treat animals suffering from degenerative diseases and non-healing wounds.

Yuan and Coronado are students in the Biomedical Engineering program, a joint Ph.D. degree program between UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and The University of Texas at San Antonio.

The objective of the program is to train students in the use of basic biomedical engineering approaches for the investigation of fundamental bioengineering questions associated with the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.

Since its launch, the company has developed partnerships with local and out-of-state veterinary clinics, veterinary hospitals and zoos. In mid-April, the company took first prize at the 2015 Emerging Medical Technology Symposium (EMTS) in the annual EMTS pitch competition.
