Two Career Advisory Council Members Recognized in the SA Business Journal
Two of our Career Advisory Council members were recognized for their achievements in the San Antonio Business Journal this
month.
Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Wilmink, the CEO of WiseWear was named “Top
Tech-preneur” for this year’s Tech Flash Titans Awards. The awards will be
given out Dec. 9 at the McNay Museum.
“When you do what you love, you never have to work a day in
your life,” Dr. Wilmink said.
Guillermo Vela,
CEO and co-founder of Nebulab, was recognized for his company’s data management tool for
scientists.
“Scientists
are some of the hardest working people I know, and they are working on some of
the hardest problems known today,” Vela said. “Being able to find or validate a piece
of data in the lab shouldn’t be one of them. We need to make their life a
little easier by giving scientists the data management tools they need.”
Both Vela and and Wilmink have been active members of the Career
Advisory Council, a council of biomedical leaders in San Antonio who provide professional
development and career advice for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
“We are so excited
to have two of San Antonio’s brightest entrepreneurs as part of the council,
it’s been incredible to see them mentoring students and giving them advice
about how to find careers in the entrepreneurship field,” said Dr. Teresa
Evans, director of the Office of Career Development at the Graduate School of
Biomedical Sciences.
