Ann Salamone, president of Rochal Industries and Career Advisory Council member, has been elected to the National Academy of
Engineering for her development of materials for biomedical applications,
personal care, electronics, and water purification.

Holding 21 U.S. patents/applications, she has developed products for electronics, water purification, personal care and healthcare. She has invested in, and served on, the boards for several entrepreneurial companies as well as co-founded six companies.

Her major current focus is on the development of novel
wound-healing products and modalities.

“Ann Salamone, as president of Rochal Industries, is a
prominent leader in biotechnology, both in San Antonio and at the national
level, as reflected by her recent election to the National Academy of
Engineering,” explained Dr. Robert Clark, assistant vice president for clinical
research at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio.

“I am especially pleased that our Institute for Integration
of Medicine and Science is working with Ann and her colleagues on implementing
clinical trials of these approaches in diabetics and spinal cord injury
patients, for whom chronic wounds represent an enormous problem,” he said.

Salamone was honored at a Celebration Reception on
Monday, March 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Texas Research Facility. We are extremely excited for Ann and look forward to her continued success.
