CEO of Protocols.io Joins Career Advisory Council
Lenny Teytelman, CEO of Protocols.io, has joined the Career Advisory Council. Lenny has over a decade of computational and experimental biology experience. He did his graduate studies at UC Berkeley and finished his postdoctoral research at MIT.
For three years, prior to switching from math and computer science to molecular biology, he was a database developer. Lenny brings to protocols.io a strong passion for sharing science and improving research efficiency through technology.
“I was very focused on an academic career, and the startup happened rather accidentally to me,” Teytelman said. “I spent a year and a half as a postdoctoral researcher, discovering that a single step of the method that I was using was incorrect.”
Teytelman found that instead of a microliter, he needed 5, and instead of a 15-minute incubation, he needed an hour. Because this was a correction of a previously-published technique and not a new method, there was no way for him to communicate this knowledge to anyone else using the same protocol.
“Luckily, it turned out that my academic training was exactly what I need to co-found a startup,” he said.
