Candidacy Ceremony 2018: Completing a Milestone

13 Sep 2018

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at UT Health San Antonio hosted a candidacy ceremony on Aug 17 to recognize our new doctoral candidates. This is an exciting milestone on the journey towards a doctoral degree and we would like to congratulate these students on this achievement!

Alumnae Dr. Katherine Klinger spoke about the importance of recognizing milestones like this in one’s career. Klinger is an alumnae of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and earned her microbiology doctoral degree in 1978. She currently works as senior vice president, genetics and genomics and presidential fellow at Genzyme in the Boston area.

In this position, she is responsible for genomics strategy and key deliverables to advance the therapeutics pipeline. Prior to this she worked as the vice president and officer at IG labs where she set strategy and direction as part of the management team and grew the company from a small esoteric lab to the largest provider of genetic testing services in the United States.

“It was great having Katherine back on campus and seeing her and her husband Dr. Jeffrey Klinger at both the candidacy ceremony and convocation,” said Dr. Nicquet Blake, senior associate dean at the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. “Her speech was inspirational and resonated with many of our students who are poised to be future leaders in the biomedical sciences.”
