Dr. Carie Boychuk receives UT System’s Rising STARs award
Carie R. Boychuk, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology, has received a Rising STARs Award from the UT System. The award for early-career investigators comes with a $250,000 grant.
Dr. Boychuk, who began work at UT Health San Antonio in 2017, received her doctorate from the University of Florida in 2009 and completed postdoctoral work at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and the University of Kentucky.
Her research aims to develop novel, therapeutic targets in the treatment of cardiovascular disease and diabetes by harnessing the brain stem’s neural circuitry responsible for the regulation of vagal drive.
The UT System Board of Regents authorized the Science and Technology Acquisition and Retention (STARs) program in 2004. Multiple types of STARs awards support enhancement of UT institutions across the state.
