Meilinn Tram Named SGA Representative of the Year
Meilinn Tram, a second year D.D.S./Ph.D. student has been named Student Government Association (SGA) representative of the year. Tram has been part of SGA since starting the D.D.S./Ph.D. program in 2018.
“I am humbled by being chosen for this award and being recognized for the hard work I put in this year,” she said. “I’m excited to represent the graduate school and SGA and look forward to making an impact for the years to come!”
The award for SGA representative of the year is voted on by members of SGA and is given to the representative that they feel has contributed to the betterment of students at UT Health San Antonio.
As part of SGA, Tram has worked to improve green initiatives at UT Health San Antonio.
“I’m a strong advocate of more green initiatives being taken by the university. After I discovered there was only one recycling dumpster on the main campus, I became extremely aware of how UT Health San Antonio could improve their green initiatives,” she said. “Alyssa Crawford and I started Green Student Organization which gives students the opportunity to make our campus more green and start the conversation of how individual contributions could make a large impact.”
Tram also serves as the public relations representative for SGA and launched SGA accounts on several social media platforms. She has also worked on creating social events like the Gold’s Gym celebration.
Outside of SGA, Tram is a student in Dr. Kenneth Hargreaves’ lab in the Integrated Biomedical Sciences program in the Physiology and Pharmacology discipline. Her current research interest is how Schwann cells can contribute to neuropathic pain. She received her B.S. in Biochemistry and M.B.A. from the University of New Mexico.
