My name is Carlo and I am a PhD student at UT Health. I am part of an organization called Enventure San Antonio, whose goal is to help accelerate the growth of San Antonio’s biomedical industry by connecting students with the local health&tech community. This semester, we have organized a seminar series with guest speakers from different areas of the biomedical industry.

We are holding our second seminar on August 12th, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm with guest speaker Dr. Teresa Evans. Dr. Evans is a very active scientist and entrepreneur in the San Antonio area who currently serves different roles in both academia and the industry.

Dr. Evans is COO of Trauma Insight, a clinical contract research organization that tests new medical technologies to treat service members, veterans, and civilians in the ER, OR, and on the battlefield. Dr. Evans is also an Assistant Professor at UT Health San Antonio, where she conducts research on graduate students’ mental health and on the impact of education and outreach programs for educators and trainees’ professional development. Finally, Dr. Evans is the Principal Consultant at Teresa Evans PhD LLC where she works on projects in different areas such as professional development and technology commercialization.

Participants to this event will learn about Dr. Evans’ story and the path that lead her to work in her current roles. In addition, there will be a final Q&A where the audience will be able to ask questions.

I believe that this is a really great opportunity for students to learn about different options for their future careers, so I hope to see as many people as possible!

While the prospect of a career in academia attracts several people, many graduate students look for other options. Unfortunately, the reality of the biomedical industry and its opportunities often remain an unknown for too many people. The “Inspire” Seminar Series is a unique opportunity to explore the reality of the biomedical industry from people directly involved in it. Each event includes a guest speaker, and it is specifically designed to encourage active discussion between them and the audience. This gives the opportunity for participating students to access relevant insights and personal experiences directly from professionals currently working in the field.
