By the time San Antonio’s first 6,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine arrived Monday morning, half of the health-care workers eligible to receive them had already signed up for shots, said Dr. Ruth Berggren, an infectious disease specialist with UT Health San Antonio.

UT Health San Antonio, the city’s largest medical school, was among four health care systems to receive Texas’ first shipments of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, which was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for emergency use late last week.
