Class of 2021 Incoming Student Spotlight: William Kelly, M.D., Master of Science in Clinical Investigation program
Tell me about yourself.
I am a medical oncologist specializing in brain and thoracic cancers. I have a deep interest in immunotherapy (using our body’s own immune system to fight cancer.) When not working; I enjoy running, reading science fiction and spending time with my family.
Why did you chose UT Health San Antonio?
I chose UT Health San Antonio due to the Mays Cancer Center and the Institute for Drug Development. Together with the facilities and experts at the South Texas Research Facility this affords the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge translational studies using novel agents.
What drew you to your program?
I was drawn to the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation program because it provides the necessary skills and foundational knowledge needed to be a successful young investigator. More specifically, biostatistics, pharmacology, and experience with advanced laboratory techniques such as mass spectrometry will be invaluable. I look forward to applying these both at the bedside and the bench.
What are your career goals?
My goal is to contribute to the fund of knowledge we have about the tumor microenvironment in glioma and open avenues for novel therapeutics. In doing so, I hope to one day provide my patients with better treatments and prognosis.
