Eithan is a student in the dual degree (M.D./Ph.D.) student who has just completed his Ph.D. in Radiological Sciences) with a focus in neuroimaging. He will be going back to medical school to finish his last two years of South Texas Medical Scientist Training program at UT Health San Antonio.
“This is the foundational work for my PhD thesis and the stem from which at least two other publications are set to be submitted very soon. What we learned through this work has very important implications. In short, we learned that Metabolic Syndrome (aka Insulin Resistance Syndrome) has a definitive neural signature that follows a previously undescribed pattern of gray matter atrophy. This likely explains the cognitive impairment and predisposition to dementia exhibited by individuals with longstanding insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes,” he explained.
